Red Light!Green Light! Go Back!

Writer: fromb2pfromb2p

Hurry and Wait the theme of the last couple of weeks of my life…In the process of getting squared away to exit Holloman without punching someone in the face…I’m not a “fight girl,” but all this back and forth is really starting to irk me. But at the end of the day, everyone is just doing their job. If you read my post “Mommies Leave Too…” I mention that I made some bad choices when it came to my family and this move. I am now trying to quickly move them and I get on a roll, the stars are aligned and then… RED LIGHT! STOP! I then wait and wait until I can make my next move… GREEN LIGHT! GO! Like really fast, hurry and then…wait. Red Light! But then, I try to get ahead of the system. GO BACK! GO BACK, start over. Oh my, yes it all sounds a bit overwhelming and it is. Lessons learned, are to use my resources. I have tons, but I feel so needy when I reach out. I feel as if I’m a bother. Another lesson learned, is I have to put as much effort into my situation as I would for someone, I was helping. What I am trying to do can be accomplished, many folks have made this happen before me and will after me. Just in the midst of it all it just seems like a game of RED LIGHT, GREEN LIGHT! 1. Read: Read all applicable instructions that pertain to your situation. Know what your intentions are and the purpose of the process you’re looking up

2. Ask: Ask questions, if someone is telling you something and you need them to clarify, have them clarify. Do not let them be lazy. Be specific in what you need, because what you read can be very vague.

Military personnel Section (Human Resources): “You need to call (Insert any organization here)”

You: “Do you have a name, number, and office of whom I’m should contact?”Talk to people who have gone through the process or know the process. Utilize your resources.

3. Follow up: Reach back to the organizations that tell you to call back or they will get back to you. With that, you need to give them time to handle the situation. Let them know your timeline and have a dialogue of what would be realistic “due” date for their office and yourself.

4. Have grace: Be gracious in your dealings with the people that you need to get info from. Say, “I appreciate your time” “Any and all help is appreciated” “let me know if there is anything I can do to, assist. And exit the office/phone conversation/ email with a smile and gratitude.

5. Breathe: You did it… no one died… you have more gray hairs but it’s done. These are just a few suggestions to help with the hurry up and wait game… just remember Purpose, Intention, and Patience.

I am not a point number 5 yet but I am hopeful, that whatever the outcome, I will be able to breathe and take the lessons I learned into another process and share with all of you.
